Members Area | Summary: Week One | Summary: Week Two | Summary: Week Three
Here is quick summary of week three. It was focussed on striking with and introduction to wrist grabs and defenses. We have ramped up the physical demands this week to improve conditioning and there was a excellent response.
General Principles:
- The only wrong answer is to do nothing… “always do something”.
- Trust your instinct… your “spidy sense”.
- De-escalte situations – avoidance, voice, escape or striking/defending.
- Run to safety, not away from danger.
- Always scan and move.
- Hands up and between you and the attacker.
Striking:
- Focus on footwork and movement, power comes later.
- Recoil every strike.
- Movement: We step, we shift, we skip and we slide. The video above shows stepping and shifting, we covered skipping when we kicked the shields. Please watch the foot work in the video when striking, both defender and attacker.
Defenses:
- Outside Defense: This is against circular strikes. We send the arm outwards with and “L frame” and strike at the same time.
- Inside Defense: This is against straight strikes. Send the palm or forearm inwards while pivoting the body.
- Wrist Grabs: Make them weaker or you stronger (by using second hand), against one hand send your wrist through the gap between the attackers thumd and fingers.
This Week:
This week we will continue with striking and movement drills with an introduction to circular and close strikes. We will cover inside and outside defenses, wrist grabs and put some of these techniques into summary drills. We will also finish the class with some relaxation to bring our heart rates down.
Kida, enjoy your training!
