Members Area | Summary: Week One | Summary: Week Two
Here is quick summary of week one. We covered a number of topics that you may not have seen or contemplated using before now. I have split this into general principles, striking and standing releases, but note this is not a techincal breakdown just a recap.
General Principles:
- The only wrong answer is to do nothing… “always do something”.
- Trust your instinct… your “spidy sense”.
- De-escalte situations – avoidance, voice, escape or striking/defending.
- Run to safety, not away from danger.
Striking:
- Hands up at all times.
- When striking hard parts of your body to soft targets.
- Recoil every strike.
- Remember your fighting stance: chin down, hands up, hands in front of your body, weight on front leg and ball of back foot digs into the ground. The fighting stance will directly relate to you mental state.
Standing Releases:
- Front Choke Checkpoints: chin to chest, two hand pluck with no thumbs, similtaneous knee, uppercut stirke and move away.
- Rear Headlock / AIr Choke: chin to shoulder, two hand pluck to sternum, similtaneous V step while passing your head under attackers arm, push into the attackers elbow (elbow pointing upwards) and knee before escaping.
- I have included a brief video showing both releases – both Jack and Harry are training partners and will coach in the club from time to time.
This week we do a recap on previous techniques, we will look at another standing release (bearhug) and introduce kicking. I will talk about striking range and integrating kicking with the hand strikes previously covered.
Most importantly, enjoy your training!

Hi Brian,
I was away last Wednesday but will be in for both nights tonight. I will pay cash in envelope for this month if that’s Ok?
Best wishes,
Kevin
