Members Area | Circular Straight Strikes
This is summary on defending circular strikes from various positions, in Krav Maga we focus on timeline so we will aways choose to move away or kick from distance, but in a fight or when surprised this is not always possbile. I mentioned in class this week that the further away an attacker the simlier the solution.
General Principles:
- Use the correct option from the correct distance. There are earlier stages of the timeline like running away, use of common objects, kicking are prefered to hand and body defenses.
- When in a fight hands up, focus on opponents chest and escape when it is safe to do so.
- Run to safety, not away from danger.
- Always scan and move.
Defenses Against Straight Strikes:
- There are many options and we will highlight some of these in this post. Options below related to the video and what was covered in class.
- Option 01: Active Shielding Sideway – This is a late reaction to circular strike. The defender takes their hand up and wraps it around their own head while attempting to obsorb while moving away from the attack. our aim is to protect the head and improve our postion, a counter strike or escape is an option here. This can also be used agains a straight strike from the side.
- Option 02: Forward Arrow – This is another reactive defense. IN the video the circular strike is visible to the defender late, so the defender moves forward with arms up to take the space and ensure the attack is not successful. This may present an option for a counter strike, control/grab or escape.
- Option 03: Bob & Weave – Generally used when in a fight and the defender can see the strike coming. This is a dip and transfer of weight between the feet while ducking under the strike. A counter strike, shove or escape is possbile here.
- Option 04: 360 Outside Defense – We have covered this previously, this is a similtaneious strike to the attackers arm and body. Send both hands and add more counter strikes or move away as soon as possbile.
