Members Area | Summary: Week One | Summary: Week Two
Here is quick summary of week two. We covered more standing releases and tighted up some striking using drills from week 01 and continuing to let them evolve in different scenarios. Some of the points below are repeated from week one but they are worth reviewing again.
General Principles:
- The only wrong answer is to do nothing… “always do something”.
- Trust your instinct… your “spidy sense”.
- De-escalte situations – avoidance, voice, escape or striking/defending.
- Run to safety, not away from danger.
- Always scan and move.
Striking:
- Hands up at all times.
- Recoil every strike.
- Distance: Far (regular or stop kicks), Medium (jab, cross from hands) and Close (elbows and knees) must be used at the correct distance.
Standing Releases:
- Bearhug from Behind with arms free: lean forward (attacker cannot lift), send horizontal elbows back (three times) alternating sides, turn into the attacker on the last elbow, mark attacks with elbows and knees then push away.
This week we will continue with striking drills, recap the previous releases and bring in some relases from grabs (wrist & clothes). We will focus on footwork and coordination with striking. I have included a brief video with Jack demonstrating the beahug and striking.
Most importantly, enjoy your training!
